Stopover Amsterdam, Day 2

Friday June 20th 2014

No newletter or weather photo today, although I can tell you it is still quite cool with occasional showers of rain.

Just a nice quiet day planned, chilling out in Amsterdam.

Last night we walked just up the street to where there are many restaurants. We chose an Irish pub & had a couple of pints of Guinness trying to give this lurgy the flick (it worked last time we were in Europe), then ordered the beef & Guinness pie, which was delicious.

Back to the hotel & in bed by just after 9pm! Earliest this trip, but much needed. The beds in this hotel are beautiful with a firm base & dreamy soft pillow top. I had a better nights sleep with less coughing so hopefully on the mend.

The included breakfast here was OK, not nearly as good as The Fairmont in Monte Carlo. I then sat in the lobby for a while using their WiFi (it sometimes works in our room, but not always) and had a visit from Trudy, my hairdresser from yesterday. She greeted me like a long lost friend & recommended her friend who works in the NH Hotel, next door, for a pedicure. So after Trudy left I walked over to that hotel & was successful in booking my pedicure for this afternoon.

I will try to remember to take a few photos so I can add them later. If not will find some I have used not used before.

We had lunch (potato & leek soup for me & a club sandwich for Mike) at yet another Irish pub. There are a lot of them around here. The music playing when we walked in was John Farnham!

Loved this sign:

Then off to my pedicure appointment, or I should say the foot dentist! The lady (Jessica from Barbados) was fantastic. She rents the room in the hotel but it's her own business & she has been there for 20 years. That way she gets lot's of hotel guests & the hotel receives an extra star rating. She has a full dentist set up with the little attachments which spray water whilst they sand, buff & polish. It doesn't feel like a dentists though with the comfortable bed & soft mood music. This was a fantastic experience, best pedicure ever, at the cost of 40 Euro for 1.5 hours. Now that was a bargain & I have ever had.

Just a few photos of the canal & park near the hotel. Once again the weather has been a bit ordinary. More like Melbourne with sun, wind, cold & rain, all within an hour!

Now time for a wee drink (the bottle of wine we purchased in Germany) before we make a decision on dinner. Couldn't find any wine glasses!

More tomorrow as we leave the Marriot & board the AMAVerde.
