We left Basel at 5am today, so after boarding last evening, the rush to unpack, have dinner etc, we really didn't get to see Basel at all. However the drive in did nothing to make us want to spend time there as it seems like a large industrial city using the river port more for cargo than tourism.
Views from our French balcony this morning when we reached Breisach at around 10.30am;
Breisach is situated on the Rhine River & is in Germany, however France is on the opposite side of the river. As our tour guide said, " depending on which side of the ship you are on, you can be in either France or Germany".
The tour we selected today was Colmar & Wine Tasting. As the Black Forest tour involved 3-4 hours on a coach we decided that was not for us after yesterdays trip.
At 12.30 we were taken about 40 minutes by coach to this now French medievial town (it has changed hands between France & Germany 7 times in the last 100 yrs). As you can see by the photas as we drove in the architecture is very "German".
We then decided to do the tour of the entire town on the Petit Train
This was a great decision as we saw a lot of things we would not have managed on foot.
Little Venice
Back on the coach & off to the winery in the famous Alcace region
Great wines & we tasted 4, a Pinot Blanche, Reisling, the one above & a Pinot Noir.
Back to the ship
This is rushed today as it's late & we need to get showered & ready for dinner in the speciality restaurant in 20 minutes!!
More tomorrow.
