Beaujolais Wine Tasting & Visit to Medieval Oingt

Tuesday 10th June, continued.

What a day! If I am starting to sound confused about where we have been so far, well it is because each day they sometimes move the ship 2 or 3 times. For example today (or yesterday as I am writing this on Wed) we were docked in Belleville when we awoke so after breakfast we went for a walk into the little town. Now someone in our group had a map & said it was just a short stroll. Not true!! It was a very hot morning so the distance seemed further.

The local markets were on and I actually found some light grey Capri pants that fitted. France would be the last place I would expect to do that. The fruit & veg markets were very popular & inexpensive. Peaches & apricots were 3euro/2kg.

We returned to the ship, had lunch & onto the coach at 2pm for the wine tour. The drive was beautiful, through very scenic farmland & wine country.

We arrived at a beautiful old winery where they grow the grapes & make the wine using traditional methods.

Then we were met by the owner & winemaker who was the 16th generation of this family owned business

He explained the growing & winemaking process (no time to expand on detail here today) & we tasted 3 beautiful wines plus some sausage & goats cheese.

It was really hot today, with the predicted 32C reaching 40C! However, the wine cellar & tasting room was over 900 years old & very cool luckily.

We departed the winery and headed towards Our next stop, the ancient village (pop less than 100) of Oingt.

As we left this delightful place you could see dark storm clouds gathering, hopefully a cooling showere was on the way.

We then drove to the ship which had moved from Belleville to Collonges, to just outside Lyon.
Photos from the picturesque drive.

We arrived back onboard the ship around 6pm, just before the storm hit. It was lovely to watch the storm from the comfort of our cabin & the lounger before dinner.

I will close now & post a short report of our special dinner later.
