Rudesheim & Rhine Gorge, Germany

Sunday June 15th 2014

After a great night of too much singing, dancing (yes I danced) & wine, we were a little slow to get started this morning.

We headed out at 9am for our excursion to the monument & gondola (cable car) ride. Our ride from the ship was via a little mini train:

After a short ride we arrived at the cable car station (where they took this mug shot)!

Some photos of the glorious views as we took the 10 minute Gondola ride to the top. Note all the grape vines growing on the steep slopes.

Once we reached the top, we were taken on a short guided walk to the monument:

It was difficult to photograph because it is so large.

Then a brief talk on the local Reisling.

Views from near the Monument

Back to the Gondola for another beautiful scenic ride down to Rudesheim town area.

We stopped for the local speciality coffee at a cafe near the gondola station. It was delicious &  contained brandy, coffee, cream & chocolate. The waitress brings the ingredients to the table & makes it as you watch. Very nice!

Next a walk through the tiny picturesque streets:

Back to the ship for lunch then we sail at 1.30pm through the Rhine Gorge.

I will do a separate post on the castles along the Rhine Gorge.

More later.
