Weather - Predicted Showers & 14-23C
Update Sunday June 1st - Unable to upload yesterday, so waiting until we are in Monte Carlo.
We sailed into Marsaille at 8am to a beautuful blue sky & warm conditions. After reading the forecast last night we were a little concerned. However, I also read the newsletter which said that this area of Southern France has an average of 300 days of sunshine per year, warm Summers & very mild Winters (sounds like my kind of place). So with barely a cloud in the sky, fingers crossed we will be lucky today.
Our tour today is an excursion to a town named Cassis. Because many of the excursions here involved regions we would be covering on the first phase of our river cruise, we decided on this. You will find out more tomorrow when I post photos and deliver some information.
Marsaille (known as the economic & industrial capiital of France) is the capital of the Provence region of France & lies on the South-Eastern coast. The architecture of many buildings in the old area of town are quite similar to those we saw in Barcelona yesterday. See photos taken from our coach as we drove through:
With such perfect weather our trip to Cassis turned into a wonderful day (or 5 hours). We left the port of Marsaille, drove through the town, then headed into the country through some rugged mountain peaks to a beautiful town on the coast called Cassis. Some photos along the way:
As cars/coaches are not allowed in the town we were taken on the 10 minute ride on a cute little train:
The town of Cassis is just gorgeous, we wanted to stay for days! In fact we almost did as we were given almost 2 hours free time, so we went for a wander checking out the beautiful harbour & the shops, then decided to stop at one of the many cafe's for lunch. We had a beautiful meal with some some wine & were enjoying ourselves so much we almost missed the deadline to be back at the train. In fact for the first time ever we were the last back & the guide was not very happy. Some photos around Cassis:
Freshly baked cookies (smelled amazing)
