Last night we sailed from Collonges at 10pm & arrived in Lyon around midnight. Now you know why I become confused with our daily location!
Not a cloud in the sky after our storm last night.
We headed out to our coach for a city & culinary tour of Lyon at 9am this morning. Started with a drive of nice areas crossing over both the Soane & Rhone Rivers on several occasions. Both rivers meet at Lyon.
Assorted photos of our drive through the city.
This was an entire building painted with mural type pictures depicting famous French people.
We then walked around the streets & through "Traboules", which are like secret passages leading through heavy wooden or metal doors through streets under buildings. Not a good description but they were quite fascinating. Most had tiny courtyards & spiral staircases to the upper levels for the residents who still there.
Next we were taken to the Lyon Food Markets, names after the famous French chef, Paul Bocuse. We were taken on a tour of the many food stalls, se below:
Note the pigs ears, noses & trotters, all used to make various types of foods.
Chickens with heads still on them to ascertain their type
Then we were taken to the tasting area and offered different types of sausage (some with tripe) on bread, pigs feet in jelly, pigs snout sliced, some salad, Brie cheeses brioche & red wine. Very interesting & I tried everything. Not everyone in our group did though.
Off back to our ship for lunch (I decided to give it a miss today & stayed in our cabin updating blogs & sorting through 100's of photos.
Just back from a silk scarf display in the lounge by a Lyon pure silk company. They are beautiful & I purchased a Claude a Money scarf in blues, mauve & aqua. Very nice.
Not sure when I will post again. Tonight is our last night on this ship. Tomorrow we have a full day driving to Basel in Switzerland before boarding the AMACello tomorrow afternoon late.
More from Basel. Must start packing!
