Another beautiful sunny morning on the Rhine River as we approach Cologne.
We actually sat out on our balcony for an hour before showering & going to breakfast. Because we were not going ashore in Cologne at 9am, it was easier to wait until most people had vacated the dining room so we could have a nice relaxing breakfast.
As Cologne was our least favourite city to visit last week, we chose to stay onboard because the ship just dropped everyone off and set sail towards Bonn. It was lovely just sitting on our balcony or up in the lounge watching the scenery pass by.
At 12.30 we stopped briefly in Bonn to pick up the excursion people, then immediately set off again towards our next stop, Anderlich, where we will once again have dinner at Burg Namedy Castle. It was such a beautiful experience last week we had no hesitation doing it again.
After a light lunch of soup & salad, we sat outside for a while, then had the now traditional afternoon nap. It certainly helps us to stay awake on these late night outings!
Yesterday I purchased the map of the entire trip from Amsterdam to Budapest via the Rhine, Main & Danube Rivers. It now makes it so much easier to follow exactly where we are as each klm on the river bank is marked (see below) and a corresponding number is marked on the map so you can locate the town you are passing on the map. As we are heading upstream the numbers are getting lower. When we left Amsterdam & joined the Rhine it read 867 and in Bonn it is 654 which means we have travelled 213 klms. So I will start posting photos from the map & you can see what I am talking about. Hope that makes sense? If not don't shoot the author :)
Our stop for the castle & overnight (Andernach)
More tomorrow.
