Firstly, a few photos from last night as we begun our journey down the Main, note the lovely sunset.
Very overcast this morning with some drizzling rain. Not a problem as yet as we are sailing all morning, not docking at Milterberg until after lunch. I will just post some random photos taken this morning as we sail along. You can see where we left the Rhine & started down the Main. The black u shapes on the map are locks.
See the reflection of this beautiful swan:
We left the Rhine River last night at approximately 7.30pm, during dinner so we are now on the Main River/Canal which is much narrower than the Rhine, with more Locks. The scenery is noticeably different as well with the river bank less manicured & fewer villages/towns so far. Not a lot of photos so far today because every time I spot something interesting I have been in the Lounge or Dining room without my camera.
Currently we are watching a 9th generation German glass blower demonstrating his craft in the lounge. He is very clever & is using pyrex glass making jewellery, xmas decorations, little animals etc. All items are for sale of course & quite reasonable prices, although not sure I need any more ornaments.
Today we have an early lunch scheduled followed by an excursion to Miltenberg for a Treasure Hunt. Not sure what that entails so will keep you informed. The alternative is a self walking tour of another little village called Freudenberg which I think we will take.
We have taken to using the "light lunch" option in the lounge the last few days & are finding it really good. They have a soup, salad options with cold meats & a pasta. It is more relaxed than the dining room we feel.
Change of plan as we were held up getting through locks, so running very late. They are now stopping very briefly in Miltenberg to let people off who have booked the excursion, then sailing straight to Freudenberg to pick them up. Not sure if there will be enough time to hop off when we arrive there as we have trouble understanding our Tour Director at times. She has a very heavy Romanian accent & often misinterprets the english language. Anyway we are happy to stay on and just enjoy the view as we sail down the river.
Miltenberg:
My blog today was pretty boring so I hope I have added some nice photos. Luckily the sun has come out so not as grey & gloomy as it was this morning. We are loving the more rural scenery on this leg.
More tomorrow from Wurzburg.
