Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Thursday 19th June 2014

Yes cold & wet here today!

After a nice dinner last night we said our sad farewells to the great people we have been with since June 1st in Monte Carlo. We will really miss their company on our next cruise :( I struggled with one farewell drink as my little cold seems to have turned into major one! So apologies to those present last night for my lack of party spirit.
Here are a few photos, sorry I forgot to get any of anything but the entree. It was crab ... Yum!

So even an early night was not helpful in obtaining much sleep due to coughing, sneezing etc. However as luck would have I fell asleep around 5am & woke suddenly at 7.30am! Luckily we were not disembarking at 8am with the others! Fortunately we had packed virtually everything the day before, so after a shower & quick breakfast we put our luggage out & left our room at 8.45 & were on a coach to our hotel, The Amsterdam Marriot by 9.15am.

We checked in, obtained a map & directions to the hotel hairdresser (yes I am in desperate need of a cut & colour, the latter due to my reluctance to use a hat on those hot sunny days). I was fortunate to obtain an appointment for this afternoon & she speaks english, so hopefully I won't end up with "orange" hair! Everything here is orange due to The World Cup soccer & The Netherlands win over Australia last night. Even our captain on the ship was Dutch, so we received regular updates!

It is quite cold & overcast here in Amsterdam today so we plan on staying close to the Hotel. This is a nice area, with lots of restaurants, shops etc nearby. The only photos I have taken (from our hotel room window):

All settled into our room by 12md & decided on a light lunch in the hotel bar. I had a local speciality, pickled herrings with salad which was delicious & a glass of Reisling, then raced off to my hairdressers appointment downstairs.

Trudy, originally from Wales in the UK, was a delight. Not only did she speak perfect english & dutch, she spoilt me rotten, not only with great coffee, but beautiful chocolates as well. When I started couging, I didn't want her to know I was germy, so said the chemicals always make me cough. She said the best cure for a cough was good chocolate so kept feeding them to me whilst she cut & coloured my hair. Then she gave me some shampoo & conditioner samples plus a great handful of chocolates to take back to our room. What a great job she did, I am very happy with both, the colour especially is very natural looking, not the sun bleached look I walked in with. Considering it was the Hairdresser attached to The Marriot Hotel, the cost was very reasonable (80 Euros). Well worth it!

I will finish up here with a few photos from our coach tour yesterday afternoon.

For you guys who are now in Paris, hope you are having a great time & misbehaving as usual! You know who I mean :)

No free WiFi here in our room, so will head to the lobby & try to upload this.
More tomorrow.
