Andernach to Rudenstein

Tuesday 24th June 2014

The Rhine Gorge begins just before The Lorelei & ends just before Rudesheim

We set off from Anderdach at 4am & I must have woken around that time & found it difficult to get back to sleep. By 5am it was broad daylight so I decided to sit out on the balcony with my camera (in my pyjamas) and take some photos. Just wish I had read this sign on the door first:

Yes you guessed it, I locked myself on the balcony & Mike was sound asleep. It took quite some time to wake him & when he did get up he thought the knocking was coming from our outside cabin door. It was really cold outside as we were moving, so am glad I wasn't alone in the cabin. Not sure how you would get any of the staff's attention!

These are a few of the early morning photos I did take:

After we showered & had breakfast, it was time to enter the Rhine Gorge, however this was delayed for around 30 minutes due to a large freight barge running aground on a sand bar & water police had to monitor traffic & only allow one ship[ through at a time. Traffic began building up & the river began to look like the M4 during peak hour!

Eventually we were underway and passed through some of the most scenic countryside with vineyards on the steep banks above little villages & of course the castles. It was another warm sunny day so the photos say it all.

We had an early lunch, then docked in Rudenshein around 1pm.

More later.
