Weather - Partially cloudy Max 28 C (MSC Newsletter predicted a Max of 21C)
Well after an early night & moving our clocks back 1 hour we awoke early as the ship docked at 8am. We had a quick breakfast (have now settled into the habit of muesili & fresh fruit rather tan a full breakfast), came back to our cabin & packed a bag for our excursion.
Today we chose "The Traditions of Konavle & Dubrovinik" so picked up our coach number & left the ship just after 8am. Our tour was a combined English & French speaking group, which they do when not enough english speaking passengers. We started with a panoramic tour of Dubrovinik, both the new & old towns, with stops for some photo taking along the way.
Then we headed to a little mountain village of Konavle at a family owned & run farm. It was a beauriful farm where they grew all their own fruit, vegetables etc & had chickens & horses. Lot's of olive, cherry & fig trees dotted the landscape as well. After walking around the grounds we were taken inside to a dining room where tables were set for 6 people & contained bottles of red & white wine & water. They then delivered huge platters of different cheeses, olives, proscutto & fresh bread. Both the food & wine was amazing & considering it was only 9.30am when we arrived, our group managed to polish off most of the food & wine. Then we were entertained to a delightful concert of traditional singing & dancers by the family. A truly wonderful experience!
Back on the coach for another scenic drive & then delivered to the old city of Dubrovinik with the fortified walls & beautiful old buildings. After a walk around we stumbeled accross a lovely cafe overlooking the wall & with great views so we went in and had a local beer and another little snack platter of local ham, olives, tomatoes & cheese. Very enjoyable!
The only negative of our wonderful day was the long line of passesngers waiting to get the shuttle bus back to our ship. Because there were 2 large cruise ships in port, the process took longer than we wanted & it was very hot standing in the sun.
Now back on board & about to sail towards Venice where we will disembark tomorrow morning. Can't believe how fast this cruise has gone. We have had perfect weather without a drop of rain since we arrived almost 10 days ago.
Luckily we have another 7 days on the sister ship MSC Splendida from Genoa tomorrow.
Keep up the good work. Thoroughly enjoying your blog. Looks like you are having a fabulous time and amazing weather. I really look forward to reading this every day. Safe travels and kick your heels up on the next cruise. Cheers Lyn (Geelong Vic.)
